We are glad that after several years, and above all thanks to the interest of students, we can renew the tradition of Student Research Competitions, this time specifically within the section of the Department of British and American Studies as part of this year’s series at the Faculty of Arts, Comenius University.

            The event will take place on Thursday, April 28, 2011 between 9:30 and 12:30 in the library of the Department. Papers on a variety of themes have been registered by the following students:

  • Jozef Hipp: Selected Common Themes in Contemporary Pop Music of British Female Vocalists;
  • Adam Hudec: North vs South: Phonological Diversity in American English;
  • Janka Kovárová: Cross-Linguistic English-Slovak Analysis of Doggy Phraseology;
  • Veronika Lakotová: The Arthurian Cycle in Film;
  • Lýdia Machová: Typical Errors of Non-Professional Interpreters from English into Slovak;
  • Dominika Uhríková: On Some Common Errors in Slovak ESL/EFL Writing.

The presentations of their research and the ensuing discussion are scheduled at 30 minutes for each competitor.

The academic committee evaluating their achievements will consist of the following members:  Assoc. Prof. PhDr. Miroslav Bázlik, CSc., Assoc. Prof. PhDr. Ada Böhmerová, CSc., PhDr. Mária Huttová, CSc., Head of the Department, and Assoc. Prof.  PhDr. Ján Vilikovský, CSc.
