NO COMMENT Exhibition
The year 2011 in press photography and caricature
Photo: Martin Bandžák (magna.sk)
Roaming around downtown with ice-cream in one hand and a fan in the other (which is a very useful thing in this incredible heat), why not recap the year 2011 as seen through the viewfinders of photojournalists? Baštová Street is not only the narrowest street in Bratislava and a good place to hide from the blazing sun; it is also where the Open Gallery, the venue of NO COMMENT exhibition, is found.
The exhibition brings the best of press photography and Czech and Slovak caricatures registered in the Novinárska cena 2011 contest. Until the end of May 2012, you have a chance to see the highlights of reportage photography (Martin Bandžák - Haiti photography series), sports photography (Marián Peiger, Radovana Stoklas) or circus stories photographed by Matúš Zajac. Comics and caricatures are represented by works of Fedor Vico of Hospodárske noviny or Jozef Gertli “Danglár“ of Trend.
Since 2010, the British Council has been one of the partners of Novinárska cena, bestowing an award for supporting the intercultural dialogue. According to the British Council, professional and responsible journalism can help to make this world a better place. Perspectives agree – enjoy the exhibition not only as a record of developments in photojournalism, but also as an unusual record of what happened last year politically and socially. A small detour you will not regret.
Open Gallery, Baštová 5, Free admission, Monday - Sunday 1 - 8 p.m.
